Takeback Tuesday: a sign of the times

Today’s Takeback Tuesday comes from the wilds of London, where I’m doing research, seeing people, and commiserating with family about Brexit (them) and #45 (me). So far I seem to be winning that Sad Place on points.

But here’s a suggestion:

You can take a similar message down to your local sign shop, to upload it to one of the online order companies such as Staples, or just order this one from Amazon, here.

Yes, it seems ridiculous to have to declare your willingness to have neighbors that aren’t Xerox copies of you, but we in the USofA seem to be living in an age of the absurd, and that appears to be the only language that is currently understood.

So happy Tuesday, wherever you may live—and if you don’t need one of these, I celebrate the inclusiveness of your particular neighborhood.

I’ve seen a number of these signs in the more liberal areas where I live – Princeton, for instance, was peppered with them! I’ve also seen the Hate has no home here signs (https://hatehasnohomehere.wordpress.com/) which I find heartening. Although then there is the response of my pastor at my church who said she is all in favor of it but wonders if we put one up would it be a true reflection of our church or would it merely be a token, empty gesture. And she has a very valid point – signs are all well and good, but actions and votes are what is truly needed.

    Hi Laurie,

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion (and vote) of course, but I for one voted happily for Brexit and am delighted with the result of the referendum. You need to understand that just because we don’t want to be ruled by Europe that doesn’t necessarily make us a bunch of bigots. Independence seems to work pretty well for the USA, so I hope you won’t begrudge it to us? Personally I like to think of myself as a fairly liberal man – and, btw, I enjoy your books a great deal, so I can’t be all bad right?

    Best wishes

    Guy

Ps – I’m afraid I’ve not heard of this #45 you are so upset about. Would you mind explaining it to those of us on this side of the pond?

I believe #45 refers to the 45th and current president of the US

    Dear Laurie-

I am a 70 year old woman in Denver, Colorado and am in terrible financial straits. No one will help. At least someone like you is speaking up for those in need. Thanks.
