home. sort of.

Home, sweet home. I had breakfast with my movie agent, who assured me all sorts of things were on the brink of happening, then joined up again with Peerless Ken the escort, who took me to sign at three or four places on the way to Mysteries to Die For in Thousand Oaks. Of course, by the time we ended at 2:00, the holiday traffic had begun, and we got to the airport a shade after the one hour arrival. Security was slow, and when I got to the gate I discovered it wasn’t a gate but a shuttle, and only winsome angst and exquisite politeness got the shuttle out of the bay and the driver calling ahead to let them know I was on my way.

Traffic home was blessedly light, I came in the door and made myself a triple-scrambled egg on toast (water only since a waffle at 9:00) then greeted daughter, husband, cat, and mother, in that order.

And tomorrow I have to leave at 6:30 in the morning to do a five minute live television spot in San Francisco–at nine on KRON channel 4, for any of you who are up at that hour.

But after that, I have two days off, to sit and stare at the walls.

Thanks for keeping me company on this mad dash across the countryside, I trust I’ve made some of you reconsider the pull of a writing career?

Sounds like a mad dash you just completed. Congrats on making it through!! I just started, and finished Locked Rooms tonight durning work…my plans on readingit last Friday sorta crashed and burned. But tonight the world did not fall apart on my watch, so I had 10 hours to read, and enjoy the wonderful book. You have out done yourslef once again! Thanks for keeping me awake during the shift, and for the happy dreams of San Fran I am sure to have as I head off to bed.

    Dear Laurie,
Your tour schedule did sound a little mad, but if writers were not slightly mad they probably couldn’t bring characters to life as you do so well. I’m ready to join the madness. Congratulations on a successful trip and a book worth rereading. (I finished the book the day after the launch and am now enjoying the book on tape.) Is there a chance of putting captions with the launch photos on your website. The car gets its due, but I would love the names of the men in tuxes and the others for my own scrapbook. Thanks again for a great time in San Francisco.

And here I thought I had it bad, working seventeen hours at McDonald’s in two days. Still, reconsider??? Never!

Congrats on finishing your signing tour! It was lovely to see you in San Diego. As for discourging me? Not a chance. Not when good writers have the amazing superpower to make even e-mail spam fun.

There should be a new diet …Atkins …South Beach … now there’s the Air Travel Diet (just enough pretzels and bad coffee to make you hungry, then timing the lay-overs so that picking something, anything up to eat at the airport is impossible or outragously expensive!)

    Enjoy the time off!
