ART UK

THE ART OF DETECTION goes on sale today in England. This dawned on me yesterday, when one of my husband’s nurses mentioned the date and I realized that I’d intended to be driving across Europe today in the car I’d ordered, bound for England and a series of events there.

Poisoned Pen Press are great people who do great books. They’re small, down-to-earth, professional, easy to work with. And they’re just getting started in the UK. I feel terrible about having to cancel the tour for them, I had so looked forward to the events they set up for me, but my life is not my own at the moment, so the book will appear without its author.

Can I ask a favor—or rather, a favour? If you live in the UK, would you buy a copy? I ask you not for me, but to support a great new publishing venture. You’ll probably have to order it—the ISBN number is 1-84722-000-2—but by way of thanks, if you send me your address, we’ll send you a signed bookplate. You can find my mailing address at the bottom of the web site’s home page.

So happy to “hear” from you! I’ve been concerned. Glad to hear that Noel is home with you. What a blessing. Remember to take care of yourself, too. You are both in my thoughts and prayers.

Ahhhhhh, if only I lived in the UK.

I would be so happy to help out in the way you have requested. However, I am your ~100 mile distant neighbor.

My heart is there for you as you face the current challenges of your life.

In my small neighborhood, we have a couple of families with similar challenges. There are many in the neighborhood who do anything and everything from gardening and child care, delivering table ready meals, cleaning the garage, to respite care for the primary care giver to have personal time. That’s in addition to the visiting professionals.

I’m hoping you will have the same comfortable support to surround you.

Thinking of you and your husband and entire family daily, for all health, tranquility and peace. Ran across word on a Harry Potter fansite (The Leaky Cauldron, I believe) that the young man who plays Harry Potter in the films will play Kipling’s son in a made-for-TV (BBC, I think) film about the impact of his loss in WWI. To air in 2007.

Mmm… Just ordered the US-version, but maybe I can cancel that order and try to get an UK-version…

I just checked and I can’t cancel anymore. But when there’s a possibility to get an UK-version (tips, someone?) I’ll order that and send the US-version back.

I’ll have to wait a little longer, but I recently discovered the Mary Russells so that will keep me busy in the meantime. 😉 They’re great!

Good wishes to Noel and you,
    Sonja

Oh, by the way, does it matter that I don’t actually live in the UK? PPP will be involved anyway, won’t they?

I have reserved two copies of the PPP edition – one for myself, to sit next to the US edition (I am so greedy, I had to buy this one too, as I was ‘there’ in June upon publication!), and one for a friend. I thought the least I could do was support my local Blackwells bookstore, who I know will send you best wishes, and hope you can make it this far north if you tour next year.

A shame you won’t be here, but family must always come first, so as ever, my best wishes to you and yours.
