Sorry I don’t have chocolates for all of my Valentines out there, and I haven’t figured a way to pour either champagne or cocoa into the machine without spectacular fizzes and fireworks, but happy V-day and happy blogiversary to us all.
We’re still hammering out the details here, but in celebration of two years of blogging without running out of words to type, this is what I have to offer.
A virtual book club, complete with author. Yes I know that RUSSL has an ongoing book discussion–I’ve been in touch with the forum leader to discuss toes and the stepping on of same, but this will be a little different. We’re going to start on a highly appropriate upcoming date, kicking off with something by yours truly about the book, how I wrote it and why, interesting tidbits and whatever comes to mind. We’ll then begin a thread or two, and see where it leads us.
I’d be glad for any suggestions from you, especially if you’ve participated in book groups before—live or electronic. What worked for you, and what really didn’t? What did you find irritating? What unexpected pleasures? And how do you feel about a book a month?
To add to the fun, each month we’ll have some kind of giveaway related to that book—those will vary, from books to t-shirts to whatever strikes my fancy.
All I can say for sure is, some time in the next year we’ll be giving away a signed, first-edition copy of THE BEEKEEPER’S APPRENTICE, and a signed, first edition A GRAVE TALENT
Yep, first editions. Not sure what they’re worth, reports vary from $300 to $900, but if you luck out, one of those sweethearts is yours.
Oh, and that appropriate date the shenanigans begin?
April 1st, of course.
The only thing close I’ve been in is LoM, but I’m definatly in!
I dropped by to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day and a Happy Bloggiversary, but at the mention of a first edition of Beekeeper’s I am adding, I’m in. The book club sounds like fun.

Sounds great. Just let us know which book we’re starting with so we can do a reread before jumping in.
Also, in honor of the Bloggiversary, I think I’ll try to introduce the concept of the Big or Bigging to this site. A Big is basically getting the writer to post a snippet from his or her WIP. This is usually not a spoiler, just an innocuous little bit to keep the mouth watering until the whole story is out.
The term Big came about after an e-friend from the compuserve forums instructed me in the fine art of begging for new material. Afterward, she jokingly denied she was teaching me how to beg, but only speaking of making bigger scenes in our own WIPs.
What do you say? Are you open to the concept? I promise my Bigs are creative and usually funny.

Happiness and celebrations to all! April 1st is in my calendar.
The April 1st tag has me definitely uneasy, but I’m in just to see what in the heck this is all about! Yabetchaboots!
Sounds great…..why don’t you begin with one of yours….!!!
I keep re-reading them…’specially now that 2007 will be sans LK book…*sniffs*
Aaack! April 1st is a Sunday! I’m not at work on Sunday. But I would still love to participate in the virtual book club. I would especially love a 1st edition of Beekeeper (it’s been my dream to get one).
Happy Valentine’s Day (a day late) to all. We had a snow (more like ‘ice’) day here yesterday. So we are recognising Valentine’s a day later.
Great, a book club with out cleaning your house! Let me know what the book will be so I can “bone” up on it.
Thanks for the great idea.
Kitty
Please count me in as well. I’ll even bring wine and chocolate!
Karen
Wow! I get to tell my friends I’m in Laurie King’s book club! I’ll tell them tomorrow that they can join, too.

Special thanks to Roxanne on her comments about my last post and of course to LRK for hanging out with us!
Did someone say bone? *my physical anthropologist ears quirk*
Oh surrre a virtual book club, I too especially like the not having to clean the house!
What price domesticity, eh.
Yes let’s and will we be live or just in our same format here?
Oh goody goody goody, but Laurie however do you find the time?
Happy to us all we are a true and loyal gang.
Marcia
Happy blogiversary, Ms. King.
A book club sounds lovely.
Years ago, a group of us would gather with beer and donuts for our meetings. Glad we’ve moved up to wine and chocolate. I guess there are some rewards for getting out of college. Count me in the club.
Yes please – just so long as it doesn’t hold up any new novels 🙂
The last post I attempted disappeared, so I’m keeping it simple this time. wowee zowee, sounds great! — Meredith T.
The Book Club is a terrific idea, count me in!!
Oooh, yes, please! Just what I needed — another reason to re-read your books! 🙂
~Elizabeth
Please count me in! I follow RUSS-L as well, and this sounds great :-).
As far as suggestions, I don’t have many, but a book a month or so does sound good. Flexibility seems to be the best approach with all book groups, but also some sort of guide, otherwise things can get far off-track very easily.
I would love to be involved in something like that. Count me in.
I was introduced to your novels Ms. King, by a dear friend of mine who knew I would instantly fall in love with Ms. Russell and of course with our dear friend Holmes. I must say I am looking forward to any book discussion on these novels! Count me in.
Kate
Wouldn’t miss it for the world – count me in! (And as Nikki said above – would appreciate the favour of knowing in advance which book we’re [re]-reading, as currently have two young children in the house, and accordingly am sporting a mind like a steel sieve!)
Please add me to the list too!
