Those of you who get the newsletter will know this, but for newcomers to the game, here it is.
Sound the trumpets and draw back the drapes the latest creation in the Laurie King electronic universe:
The Laurie R. King Virtual Book Club, or, LRK VBC.
That’s right, a book club where readers don’t have to bring cookies, hire a babysitter, or even change out of their pajamas.
Every month will see a new King novel (and a few others) under discussion, with extended excerpts, photos, and an essay from Laurie about the book–writing it, the research, unexpected doors it opened, an interview, whatever she feels like saying. There will also be contests and drawings, just to stir things up.
The forum’s ringleader is Vicki VanValkenburgh, who led the YA forum on Readerville for three years. The LRK/VBC opens June 1 with discussion of Laurie’s Edgar-winning first novel, A Grave Talent. The forum can be reached through Laurie’s website or directly at https://laurierking.com/vbulletin/
Drop in and see how much fun a book club can be!
Wishing you a good summer’s read,

Hi Laurie,
Hoping that the q and a for June is up and running. REgarding A Grave Talent, how on earth did you come up with the original idea for the plot line?
v
Laurie posted some cool stuff about A Grave Talent on this page in the VBC. Hope to see you at the Grave Talent discussion!
Really excellent layout, Laurie! Does one “bench” a “shecheyanu” (blessing–text below) on a new virtual book club?
Blessed art thou, Ruler of the Universe, who has allowed us to experience this new thing (very, very rough translation!)
Virtual Book club mailer made my mailbox happy!
Many sympathies. May you have time to process and find grace amongst grief.
