Here are two additions for the list of UK events that I posted Monday—and if you’re thinking of coming and want to set up a meet with other Friends of LRK, we’ve started a get-together thread on the book club’s Meetup page.
The new events are:
June 9, 7:00
Bath
Topping & Co
The Paragon, Bath
June 18, 7:00
Oxford
Blackwell Books
48-51 Broad Street, Oxford
Please join us, at one or both, or indeed all eight venues. You’ll have fun, I assure you.
Blackwell Books, Oxford. Arrrrgggh, what I wouldn’t give to be there for that. I can only hope when LANG or will be BEES (the acronyms for the Russell Books have so far been the first four letters of the first word, discounting “The” and “A” with the exception of MREG) is published you may return to Blackwell Books for a signing. I’m hoping to get to England in the summer of 2009.
Waaaah! I wanna go back to Blackwells! :..(
When I win the sweepstakes, I am *so* going to do cool stuff like hop on a plane for an LRK reading in Oxford.

Ok, let’s not all wail at once . . . would the internet be able to withstand the combined force of our plaint??? (Ok, ok, me, too!)
Vikki and Chris: in 1986 I stood, forlorn, on the sidewalk outside Eagle & Child (otherwise known as Bird and Baby), which was shut, one afternoon, in total uncomprehension of the rules that allowed a pub to be open only at certain hours of the day that seemed quite different than the rules applying to ‘bars’ in the U.S. I’m pleased to say that I spent much happier times in Blackwells and another wonderful bookstore in Oxford that week, although I don’t think I ever made it back to Eagle & Child.
As for LRK’s hippie past and our various comments on hippiedom, I really am simply deeply happy that you made your way to writing, among all else, Laurie. Thank you for the hours you invest in allowing a story to arrive so that the rest of us can dive gratefully into it!
Wow…Blackwell publishes the texts I use in my Human Evolution course…who’d ‘ave thunk!
Er…what sweepstakes?
Well have a grand time then :)! Wish I could be there…there are so many bones I’m aching to study on that side of the pond…and to top it off with one of your readings…priceless!

Don’t know what happened. Maybe I’m now restricted to one line. Anyway, Laraine, (and anyone else who wants to log in with an opinion) if you want to help a kid out and say your piece about hippies, check out the Calling All Hippies thread in the Great Room section. My daughter is doing a report on the sixties for school. I could not find your name in the member list to send you a message about it. No joke. Tell her what you think she should know about the sixties.
NKK, I’m not always great at navigating the various areas, but will try to make my way to the Great Room and offer my comments.
