To my utter astonishment and honor, I was invested into the Baker Street Irregulars tonight. Since the honor was accompanied by volumes of wine, champagne, and sundry unidentifiable liquids, and it is now one thirty in the morning, I may perhaps be forgiven in not offering a complete explanation of the above, other than to say, I do not deserve it, but I am certainly not going to turn it down.
And now, to bed.
Congratulations, Laurie.
On the announcements section of the VBC, I had already posted a link to the Baket Street Blog that includes a write up of the event and your honour (as they spell it).
I would love to know what is meant by your title of “The Red Circle”.
Clearly, you have won them over completely. Wonderful!

Woooohoooo! *Pops virtual champagne* Congratulations to Our Fearless Leader!
Congratulations!
Congratulations, Laurie. I think you do deserve the honour. If I had written about what Sherlock Holmes means to me, I would have said that before LRK’s books, he was just a stereotype.
ABOUT TIME THEY DID! Congratulations!
Congratulations, Laurie, on a well-deserved honor! It will be a pleasure to refer to you in the future as The Red Circle; good for you!!!
Bravo! Congratulations! Well done!
…make sure to drink plenty of water.
A long overdue honor – IMHO. The Mary Russell Mysteries have brought many people (me included) to the master. To think they wanted to tar and feather you when BEEK and MREG came out. Oh, how the tables have turned, which only goes to show that the BSI is a healthy organizm that is growing, mutating and adapting to the times.
Congratulations!

Massive CONGRATULATIONS! As the dear Brits would say, Brilliant!! How the world does turn. I hope you had a bit of aspirin to go with Megan’s water. Take care of yourself….now go write us something 🙂 Meredith
p.s. Now that you are an Ultimate Insider, did someone really attend an early one of these meetings portraying the Hound of the Baskervilles? Tell!
Marjorie,
The Red Circle was the name of an Italian mafia used in an ACD Holmes story. Hmm. If Laurie is the criminal organization, then we must be literary mobsters. LOL. I like it.
Congrats, Laurie! This seems to be just the most natural development I can imagine. Hope your head/innards are recovering well after the, um, ceremonies.
Haha! So what is the literary mobster equivalent of ‘taking out one’s kneecaps’? Hee hee hee…
WOWIE ZOWIE!! Congrats Laurie!! Now I must run off to Scott’s blog to see what your vested name is 😉 . Hope your return flight goes well! You certainly do deserve it…I think you’ve put a different spin on a character..a spin that should be recognised by all, BSIs included. Best. C (recovering from 32 hours flight time with horrible jet lag)
Oh wow! Awesome! And I found a picture of you from the event (courtesy a friend who reads Neil Gaiman’s Twitter feed…was he at your table, perhaps?): http://twitpic.com/y9b2k
Congratulations Laurie!
That’s great. They respect your work. Congratulations!
I’m very late to the party as I am an Episodic Blog Reader (I know, I know, I’m sorry) but I HAD heard of this great honor and am so happy for you. Very, very richly deserved of course and a secondary honor to all of us who treasure Kanon.
Seeing Laurie get invested was just the best thing! I am happy for her and delighted that she has graced us with her charming presence.
The Red Circle is, besides being a Sherlock Holmes story, the name of
a scion society run by one of Laurie’s champions among the BSI: Peter E. Blau. It is also the former investiture of the late Robert Montgomery, one of our most beloved figures. He, and his son after him, are both sorely missed.
