Today when I went to crank up the umbrella that shades my study window, I found that in the week I was off in New Orleans, a couple of local residents had moved in. I like bats. They’re charming little things, and I was sorry to upset them today, waking them from their sleep and forcing them to go in search of other shelter.
So I’ve ordered a bat house for them. One that doesn’t suddenly crank open and leave them staring at the sunshine.
I like bats, from a distance. The bat house sounds like a wonderful idea.
Sure as long as a discrete distance is kept. Bats can be rabid.
*squee* Too adorable.
You have brought joy to my day with your bat pictures and your respectful solution to the bats needs.
The bat house looks very nice – hope they appreciate it. If you were in the UK, would they be Pipistrelles? Mr. Robert & Estelle would like that, I think.
Bats serve a useful purpose as well. They eat lots of mosquitoes. We have resident bats at our Minnesota cabin. These particular are very shy. We love our bats. They patrol the interior of our cabin after we leave (fly around dissuading bat-phobic burglars). BTW it’s a misconception that bats are often rabid or dangerous. They are amazing flyers at night. Bats can turn on a dime and like barnswallows they can fly an inch from your head but never actually run into you. We need a book of suspense from Laurie King featuring bats. I believe Sherlock became an amateur bat keeper later on in his twilight years. No pun intended. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out this book is already in progress….. Am I right? We shall see. Hanging tight in Nebraska.
Yep, love bats. Best tourist venue is the Congress St bridge in Austin, millions of bats come exploding out at dusk.
