All Sherlock, all the time

Eleven months ago, I went to New York and came home with a Secret Handshake and a Code Name.

Well, actually I went to the annual dinner of the Baker Street Irregulars and was given the great and unexpected honor of being made an Irregular (investiture name: “The Red Circle.”  Which is a Conan Doyle story you can no doubt download on various e-sites.)

Since then, it hasn’t been All Sherlock, All the Time, but only because Mary Russell has been standing there tapping her foot at me.  Now that Pirate King is on its way, Holmes is pushing forward.

One project, which I mentioned here earlier, is an anthology of original stories that Les Klinger and I are editing.  A Study in Sherlock: stories inspired by the Sherlock Holmes canon is scheduled for publication in December, 2011, but we now have a web site up for it, with more to come as we know more.

The site is here.

And more tomorrow about other Sherlockian projects.

Holy Ding Dongs!! That is one amazing line up of authors. Telling us now and making us wait a whole year is just…cruel. Well, actually it is like having to wait for the next Russell book, which is difficult, but also deliciously exciting.

The minute this is open for pre-order I.am.so.there.

I know this isn’t the proper content/blog entry to do so, but I just wanted to say what are remarkable author you are, Laurie. I am a latecomer to the Mary Russell series, but in a way that’s a good thing, because I still have some to read! I am utterly dumbfounded by your attention to detail, your exciting plots, your discipline in character development and well, just about a thousand other facets of the Mary Russell series. My only fear – other than being abducted by a rajah, being sacrificed on a stone altar in the dead of night or being stung by bees – is that you never stop writing them. This year I gave the gifts of Mary Russell books to family and friends. I’m certain they will become eager fans as well. Some (very small) thoughts:

I wonder if Jeremy Brett comes to anyone else’s mind when the are reading the Holmes of the Russell series. Further validation of what a great job you are doing.

I’ve noticed a funny parallel to the Holmes-Russell relationship. The 60s Brit series The Avengers. Emma Peel is very much a modern day Mary Russell.

    Cheers!

I’m very glad you’re enjoying the books, and I think Russell would be tickled to be compared with Emma Peel! May you never be abducted by a rajah, or stung by bees.

Can’t wait for the book you’re editing OR for “The Pirate King”! And yes, I think of Jeremy Brett when I read Laurie’s Holmes, but also a bit of my own (the one I imagined when I was 13).
