Having trouble downloading Beekeeping for Beginners?
Sorry if I misled you as to the ease of this process, it was not deliberate. There is A Step Between.
As I understand it, the story is sold in a whole bunch of places, some of which are already formatted for their proprietary readers (Kindle, Nook, Sony, etc.) For others, you just need to download a free reader program.
For example, Barnes & Noble has one here, Amazon’s is here—and most of the Big Boys seem to have some way of giving you free access to the books, since they then hope you will go ahead and buy from them.

And it will be available in the UK markets within the next three weeks. With, one hopes, less trouble.
For those with a non-intel Mac, the only reader app that will work on that architecture is the Adobe Digital Reader app. It’s free and you can find it on Kobo. None of the other apps work on the older Mac architecture. Good luck!
I hope they publish a print version of Beekeeping for Beginners, as I cannot get the download to work even with your instructions.

Teresa–some of the smaller accounts will take a few days to get the book up on their sites, for some reason. However, my editor’s assistant says:
I seriously cannot imagine why this wouldn’t work for her. The only thing I suspect is that her operating system may not support the technology. She needs, according to Amazon, Windows 7, Vista, or XP (so if she bought a computer in the past five years she should be okay…), and there are separate instructions for Mac users. If she cannot buy Beekeeping For Beginners, that’s a different issue, but if she cannot download the program to, using Amazon’s instructions, I would be curious as to what computer she has and what system she’s running. If she’s using a PC, she should be able to go into the lower lefthand corner (the start button), and written vertically up the side of that menu should be the name of the operating system. For instance, I’m running Window’s XP Professional.
I’m so sorry to your reader. This really, genuinely, sincerely should not be a problem.

I’ve posted this on the other blog post, but maybe it’ll be helpful for you (at the risk of sounding like a know it all, which I most definitely am not). If you’re able to download Adobe Digital Editions (http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/) you can buy the book in ePub format (Kobo or the Sony Store are good choices there, but really anywhere that’s a basic ePub format will work – so not Amazon) and add it to your Adobe Digital Editions Library you should be able to read it in the computer.
Unfortunately, I don’t have my personal computer next to me so I can’t give step-by-step instructions, but you simply need to 1) download the software, 2) authorize your computer (this is so you can read DRM protected books), 3) save your bought book somewhere (in a “Books”) folder then 4) open Adobe Digital Editions and , 5) if all goes well, the program will find the book all on it’s own, or 5a) you can add it to the library manually. You’re then free to open it with the software and read it on your computer.
I’ve used the program before and have found it to be one of the most user-friendly out there.

I don’t have an e-reader, but I did get the Amazon download to work after I first downloaded the Kindle for Mac software and then bought the download from them. Woo hoo!

I don’t have an e-reader either, but I was able to get the free nook download. My problem is I wanted to read it by the pool, and I only have a laptop. Nook doesn’t seem to allow for a printout. Is there any chance we can get a plain old PDF?
I was mistaken when I said it would be a pdf, apparently pdf just invites piracy (and not the fun kind!) So no, e-books can’t be printed, unless you’re some kind of hacker, and I’m sure none of my readers would be so impolite.
I amaze myself… On my brand new, all-singing, all-dancing cell phone, I have downloaded ”Kindle for Android” ….AND ordered Beekeeping for Beginners to read on a 2″ sq screen! Hope my eyesight is up to it… Worth it, although I still await a print edtion… And the e-book seems to have been forward to 15th July here in the UK, so a week to go!

Um….I clicked the provided link for Amazon, and it’s saying that the book isn’t available. I have the Kindle app for tablets. Help? I feel like I have betrayed my generation with my lack of webskill.
Amazon is saying that Bk4B is not available until July 25th. I’m in the US.
Sorry about this, apparently Amazon is a bit confused, but Random House tell me they’re on it, and it should be back up for sale (in the US) in an Amazonian jiffy.

Any place selling it without DRM? I suspect not as it’s through a publishing house, but I thought I might be hopeful and ask. I don’t buy DRMed books as they are more hassle than they’re worth, as shown by all the problems people seem to be having.
Not sure what a DRM is, but if it’s what limits the book to being read through specific software, as opposed to pdf, then no. However, you’ll find most of the problems were because I didn’t understand how the thing would be formatted, and didn’t suggest to people beforehand that they download the free software onto their computers. Once they did that, I don’t think people are still having problems. Unless they’re outside the US, in which case I can’t help them yet.
DRM = Digital Rights Management and yes, it’s the Adobe stuff. Thanks for letting me know. I guess I’ll do without for now.
Amazon still says it’s for sale on 25 July. 🙁
I downloaded the Kindle for PC reader and the ebook with no problem from Amazon. Maybe because I pre-ordered?
