Room with a view
When I went house-shopping almost two years ago now, my only requirement was that it be closer to family than where I was. However, before long I had to admit to my real estate agent that I’d been spoiled, and I didn’t think I could bear to live any place but on top of a hill.
So we drew a line through anything down among trees (which in this area, is redwoods, and perpetually shaded). Hilltop aeries being in limited supply, I ended up with a place that basically needed rebuilding from the foundations up, and although we’re now at 18 months and still closing in on a) getting the outside finished enough to paint its dreary color and b) getting the plumbing and electricity finished enough to spray on insulation under the floor, if ever I despair, I just walk over to the window and look out, at the lights of Santa Cruz:
Or the silhouette of trees against the sunset:
(And no, this color is not enhanced.)
After a few minutes, I decide that the drawbacks are not so important, after all…
WOW!
Laurie, your pictures remind me of that verse in the Bible about “I have a goodly heritage…my lines have been drawn in pleasant places.” You have a pleasant place indeed, and may you have many, many years to enjoy it. Clearly that view is worth any amount of hassle!
I am so glad for you, Laurie. You have earned it with the hours and hours of pleasure you have given us.
Knockout! Art out the window, and it’s perpetually changing. Warm sweater and cup of tea until the contractor finishes. Cheers!
