Larceny in the Library

I was asked to write a short piece for the Random House Library blog, so I used it as an opportunity to confess the sins I committed during the writing and researching of Dreaming Spies.  Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.  Read my confession here.Dreaming Spies High Res JPEG

Ohmagosh! Does that make us, who encourage and call you to continue to perpetrate, >gasp< accomplices … ? So be it! May you now stumble upon a vast realm of incunabular tomes to scavenge and add to your addictive creations.

Laurie, as a librarian I feel free to say this: Your kind of larceny is what libraries are all about! As I used to like to say, a library is a knowledge engine, providing transportation for all sorts of creative vehicles, scholarly, creative, and otherwise. I’m sure all those libraries are proud to have provided fodder for your wonderful stories!

Now, Laurie, I know that last was tongue in cheek. Did the libraries steal your childhood, or as in my life, greatly enrich it? I shudder to think what my childhood and adolescence would have been like without the 10 or more big central or small branch libraries that I treasure in memory.
