Last week, just a few days later than I’d promised my editor, I finished my first draft of Russell & Holmes #17, Castle Shade.
Every book has measures of its progress: the proposal, the first draft, cover art—and when I have the cover and a buy-link, I can open up a web page. But one that always pleases me is the first time I use the title as a category here on the blog.
A new tag makes it real. And you can now highlight all the posts talking about Castle Shade, by clicking the button over on the blog sidebar.
More to come!
Hurrah! I can never wait for the next book. 🙂

I just finished the 10th Mary Russell book, and I’m so glad I have lots more to read. I will be so torn to reach end, wanting so badly to read it and not wanting it to end. MS. King, could you please never stop writing them?
The absolute benefit of Ms King’s writing is that (not only is there so much) but you can always start again and find new things. For example, how many times have I read MREG and I have some how missed Ms Russell suggesting that Holmes could be Jack the Ripper? Lol enjoy your read.
Did you ever see Michael Dibdin’s The Last Sherlock Holmes Story? Deeply creepy.
How exciting! I can’t wait until it is published!
Hurrah, I can’t wait!
Can’t wait!!!
Thank you ❤️
I am so very excited to hear that Russell and Holmes will continue and a new book is on the horizon. But…. I only just finished reading the last one! It was being saved for my week-at-the-beach vacation. Very much enjoyed it!
Well, you have til June to get ready for it. Plenty of time to work up your anticipation…
Wonderful news! Looking forward to its release next year.
I’ve read all the Russell/Holmes books, but have reread my favorites several times: The Beekeeper’s Apprentice, A Monstrous Regiment of Women, O Jerusalem, The Moor, and Locked Rooms. I think Locked Rooms is my favorite of all the R/H books.
