Rain gonna fall

It’s April, here on the Central Coast, and in a normal year, we’d be pretty well finished with rain until October. Not that we can remember what a normal year looks like. This year we’re above our more-or-less average of 33 inches (the below are from the excellent Weathercat.net) –

Last year, on the other hand, looked like this –

And the year before was even worse –

They’re telling us that our La Niña weather pattern that’s dominated for the past few years is turning over to her brother, and that El Niño tends to bring disruptive, ie rainy, winters.

So…my hilltop home may soon be beachfront property?

    Dear Ms King
You, Mary and Sherlock have almost landed me in a debtors’ prison. I was hooked from The Beekeeper’s Apprentice, and have since bought every single one of them. I have to … so that I always have another one to look forward to.
I am in awe at the apparent ease you have created, almost seamlessly, the story of Mary Russell into that of Sherlock Holmes. I love the way you have made her a woman of the highest intelligence, but with a warmth and delicious sense of humour. Please, please try and think of more of them. I have all of them inc Castle Shade, and all the short stories. Please keep writing, and I will promise to keep buying. Thank you from my heart for Russell and Holmes. Kindest regards, Liz Payne 🫶

I like the previous commentator have bought and read all of the Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes books. Well almost all. I have bought all and am currently reading book 15. How could I imagine that less than two weeks ago I would meet again with a character I have loved in so many incantations but you have totally spoiled me for anyone else’s Sherlock. I am bereft. Please don’t end with 17 and thank you so much for the pleasure you have given me even though it is bittersweet as I hurl towards the last glimpse of them for now. I have to say my husband might be glad to see my nose lifted and my awareness of life of reality returning
