Energizing Britain

The morning sun catches these off the southern coastline of England, though the rest of the day you have to look hard to see them. I’m not sure I’d be keen on an unbroken fence-line of wind-mills along the horizon, but in patches like this, they’re as sculptural as a Calder mobile.

If these are off the coast of the Seven Sisters then they are new and caused a great deal of controversy locally. Planning permission was refused initially. I saw these on Friday when I was atop the (very windy) South Downs. I guess the choice is: wind power or another nuclear station.

That is the choice in many places: while the windmills may not be aesthetically pleasing to some, they are much prettier than a smokestack.
