Winter in Santa Cruz

Here on the left coast, winter is a really rocky time.

Twice a day, we feel low…tide.

We’re constantly on the cliffs around here.

And yes, we’re all going to the dogs.

But still, here’s some waves to you, from me and Steamer Lane.

    W. Cliff Drive, yes? Took a bike ride along the cliffs in July last year on a day trip to Santa Cruz. Awesome views!

While at UC Santa Cruz I spent a year on East Cliff drive looking off in this direction. I’ve been reading your books for years, enjoying the theological threads, wondering more and more about you. I googled you and was so pleased to find out the similarities in our paths. I graduated in 1971 and remember Dr. King’s presence on campus. I was one of Dr. Blake’s students in South Carolina. After teaching school in Morgan HIll for two years I moved back east to be closer to my family, then went to Union Theological Seminary, NYC. I have settled, for the time being, in Santa Fe, New Mexico after years of work in and out of the church with adults with developmental disabilities. It makes me happy to think that, had we known each other you and I would have been friends. Thank you for hours of good reading.

Thank you for your wonderful Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes books. I adore them. Your writing really appeals to me because of the enthralling stories you tell as well as the erudite language you choose. I don’t think I have used the dictionary function on my Kindle as often with any other author!

I am also a fellow Slug (Porter, 1993) and a former Santa Cruz inhabitant. I came upon your books only recently (after we moved to Vancouver, BC, by way of many years in Montréal). Now, I simply cannot put a book down, once started. When finished, I find myself longing for yet another tome of mystery so that I may indulge my insatiable desire to discover and to experience what these two memorable characters will involve themselves in next.

Wishing you many years of continued success and creative prowess.

    Cheers, Vicky Lynn Macchione

Thanks, Vicky–Go Slugs! And I hope to see you at Left Coast Crime later this month, since it’s in Vancouver..?
