Appearing as an answer on Jeopardy is definitely a sign of having made it, and by my lights, it is a well-worded clue – I am somewhat mystified why nobody got it…The good news is I just turned my North Carolina beekeeper friend on to this “obscure” (?!?) mystery, and she was delighted!
!!! That’s really exciting, in spite of the contestants’ lack of good taste. And being poor guessers…who wouldn’t guess “Sherlock Holmes” for “British sleuth” anyway?
Well, my husband and I immediately gave the right answer! We’ve read and loved everyone of the series. In fact, I’ve read them twice. It should have been worth $1000!
I got excited when I saw the clue on last night’s show. Ha! Got the answer instantly. I was also very happy for you, Laurie, and Mary Russell. Sherlock, too. He was the answer after all. 🙂
Laurie, I knew the answer, of course, and I was so excited for you that I immediately had to tell my husband (also a writer) about it. I remember being in the audience when you were speaking at Book Passage back in 1994 when the book introduced your series.
Congratulations on your Jeopardy! appearance!

They were too busy reading the books they thought Jeopardy would ask about…
But yes, who wouldn’t guess Holmes?

I was watching and, of course, I got it right. My husband looked at me with amazement.

Guess they figured it was a simple question..?

I was screaming the answer at the TV, can’t imagine why no one heard it!!
You won the $400, Patricia.

Wow, what a long time ago! I think that may have been at the mystery writing conference, along with my agent? That was such fun.
Laurie
