Will you ever fill in the missing months, and sometimes years of the Russell novels? The over two years after her marriage to Holmes (Feb. 1921 to Aug. 1923) are tantalizing, along with Summer of 1919 to Dec. 1920

Where can I find a book like ‘Cults Among Us’?
What influences do you consider, when describing or hearing a ‘California accent’. I have my own thoughts, but since you mentioned it, in The Art of Detection, I’d like to hear your take on it.
“I’ve never heard a California accent and I lived there for 6 years?”. My question is still “When will we see the first Russell movie?”
How do royalties on bookclub sales (i.e., mystery guild, etc.) work? Is the per-book price the same as one purchased in a store?
Just wondering — I buy yours in stores so I don’t have to wait.
I’m a bit behind all the others, just got done with “Locked Rooms”. I’d be interested to know if you had the plot for that book figured out since “Beekeeper’s Apprentice”, or did you realize at a later point that there could be a story hidden in Russell’s past?
I think I remember something about a possibility of Folly being considered for a TV movie.
Is there any follow-up on that, or is there a possiblity of any other LRK books being made into a TV or any movie?
If you’ve mentioned this before and I missed it I’m sorry (haven’t been online much lately), but I want to know what Russell was doing while Holmes was seeing the seamier side of San Francisco and investigating Raynor’s death. Holmes made a reference to his empty bed, as I recall, so where the heck was she?
I was just reading “A Passage to India,” and there is a character named “Mahmoud Ali”– any relation to the names in both “Oh Jerusalem” & “Justice Hall”? Or random coincidence?

May I ask my electronic friends to be careful of revealing plot spoilers? I’ve not yet read TAOD or the last of either series, yet, and so much appreciate going into them with no foreknowledge of what is to happen.
There is a Southern California accent that is a curious combination of dustbowl-era Texan and Ohio, with a deep-in-the-throat hum preceding the beginning of a sentence or sometimes a thought-about word . . . but I’m not sure it is what anyone would call ‘Californian’. I look forward to your answer on this, Laurie.
All the questions that float about when I’m reading desert me when I have the chance . . . I’ll have to wait for August, barring a last-minute recollection.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen this addressed before: Is there a chance we will see a “Collected Stories” volume from LRK? I have been able to find a couple of LRK short stories in our library, but, alas, short fiction does not seem to be preferred reading for the masses.

What did you draw on for the descriptions of Rae’s woodwork in “Folly”?
The link provided for the ‘only on-line portrait’ of Russell and Holmes (from the page showing various BEEK covers over time) lead, when I clicked on it, to a webpage denying me access to “deviant art” in no uncertain terms.
Although I have no doubt that this may be your tongue-in-cheek way of asserting that no official portraits are recognized, I’ve also had the experience of links going astray or aging and failing to provide their assigned service over time. Which is it? Thanks!

I was curious about what makes a good editor. (You wrote that yours was very good.) How do they keep it a LRK book and not the editor’s book?
My brother and I often talk books. He really likes lots of visual descriptions of characters and I tend to build my own image from what the characters do. You can see we would try to influence a writer in different ways if we were editing. How do you know what to change or not change?
How is your son doing these days? I hope all is well.
I am intrigued by the two mentions, in “A Monstrous Regiment of Women”, of Holmes’ son. I would very much like some elaboration on that.
My question is a sort of echo of Kathleen’s about where you got the inspiration for Rae’s artwork. Most generally, my question is, how do you, as an author, find your way to descriptions of activities (like woodworking, or painting, or martial arts) that you may not normally engage in yourself (and please forgive me if, in fact, you do engage in all of these!)? I just re-read BEEK, for example, and was dazzled anew at the descriptions of Holmes’ and Russell’s chess matches. Now, I don’t play chess at all, yet you managed to describe their games in such a way that I was completely sucked in to the energy of the play and could understand on a pretty good gut level the metaphors you were drawing between the games, the relationship between Holmes and Russell and the strategies they would use to confront their enemy upon their return to England.
So . . . is there a particular technique you use, or is it just writerly magic?

Just wondering… is the name “Mary Russell” an homage to Dorothy L Sayers? Based on the character from “The Nine Tailors”?
I was wondering, after reading The Art of Deception if you are ever going to fill in the gaps regarding Lee’s pregnancy, etc. I would think that coping with her disability and the long time it took for them to get pregnant (referred to in the book) that something is really missing about the developing relationship between the two. The missing gaps in this series are just like the ones in the Russell novels. How about letting us in on what went on? Thanks.
