UK/US Touchstone giveaways
When I told my web lady that I had an extra box of Touchstone hardbacks, in case she wanted to do something with them, she jumped up and down (Vicki’s a bit excitable) and grabbed them all for a giveaway.
Or rather, three giveaways: March 7, March 14, and (for UK addresses) March 21. The details are here, but basically, the first two dates, signed books will go to registered members of the Virtual Book Club, the LRK newsletter, and this blog Mutterings. (You can sign up for all three of those here. The second date, we’ll do those three again, and add half a dozen for Libraries.
That’s right: If you have a library you think would like a copy of Touchstone for their shelves, submit their name and address (with the subject: Touchstone to Libraries) to info@laurierking.com. We’ll give away six copies on March 14 (and maybe because you were so nice, they’ll put you first on their reader list!)
March 21 is for poor, patient, UK readers. Touchstone will be out in June, and the Poisoned Pen Press have two Advanced Reader Copies of their edition of the book that they’ve reserved for readers. If you’d like a chance at an early read, submit your name (with the subject: UK ARC) to info@laurierking.com.
I haven’t received the LRK newsletter in a very long time. Is that because there hasn’t been one for a bit? Or because my registration is not up-to-date (although one of the first things I do when there is a change is submit changes to the LRK VBC, etc.)?
My library subscribes to McNaughton Book Services and, when my (first) turn recently rolled around, I picked Touchstone as one of my recommended titles.

We should plan something like “Read-the-same-LRK-text-at-exactly-the-same-moment-all-around-the-world”. According to Jasper Fforde’s logic, that might either help one of the characters to jump into our real world, or lead to a fascinating fictional overload …
Now *that* would be a heckuva library week celebration!
Which LRK character would you want to help jump into the real world? Other than Russell, who needs no such help, judging from her real-world activities–blogging, writing letters to the editor, continuing her theological work etc. 😉 I think my choice would be Bennet Grey [swoon], Laura Hurleigh or Vaun Adams.
I *would* say Brother Erasmus, but I’m afraid one quotation too many might tempt me to whack him upside the head with his walking stick. I looove to read about him, though, and look forward to seeing more of him in the upcoming short story collection–The Blue Religion, I think was the name of it. He’s an interesting character.
Ooops, I misspelled the swoon-worthy Mr. Grey’s first name; it should have two t’s rather than one. I tend to default to the Austenian spelling, which uses one t, after multiple, multiple, multiple readings of Pride and Prejudice.
I haven’t bought “Touchstone” yet, so I cannot judge whether Bennett Grey would be worth realifying. But Brother Erasmus – yes, definitely. Or a vigorous young Russell straight out of the 1920s!

If you bring Russell you have to bring Holmes, but since they are real and still alive I guess that isn’t necessary. **wink** (walking away whistling and playing the game)

Not sure if this question should go in here or over on the VBC, but seeing as I’ve just managed to re-register myself really I just wanted to celebrate.
Will the UK Touchstone have the same cover as the USA version? Much as I like “your” one I’d quite like to see something different – because then I have further justification for buying another copy!
Selfishly hoping that you are able to go to Bristol later in the year, but fully understanding the concerns that mean that it might not be possible

Ooooh, I’ve just peeped. It looks wonderful – dark and mysterious, and, dare I say, I think fits the book better. I’ll have to wait until June (?), but a splendid justification for a book buying opportunity.

I’ve been listening/reading Locked Rooms again- perhaps the tenth time while driving for work. Today I wondered -not for the first time, Are you going to write about the stop in Japan? I’m glad to see that another Russell/Holmes book is coming in 2009.
