A final note on Crime Fest: If you have the opportunity to see Simon Brett perform his one-man multiple-character play “Lines of Enquiryâ€, don’t pass it by. Forty minutes of silliness and high drama, performed in a variety of accents—oh, and it’s all in verse. His characters are played by Osbert Mint, Betti Morns, and Bren O’Smitt along with a baffling number of other anagrams, all of which he came up with on his own without the use of those computer generated lists of peculiar names. Then drinks with the organizers and Simon and Declan Hughes, whom I met somewhere and somewhen but neither of us could remember the details. Which means it was probably in a bar at a conference…
Monday I had my first solo event for Touchstone, made welcome by the good people at Topping’s Books in Bath. The gorgeous evening made for a small number, but we had a lovely time talking about books and drinking wine, and it was good to meet some of the regular readers of this blog (here’s your chance to say hi on the comments, you chronic lurkers!)
Off today to Cambridge, hope to see hundreds of you there.
Well heck, if the lurkers won’t post, I will. I’m loving this description of the UK tour. I wish I was there, but this is the next best thing. My mother always told me “It’s not what you want that does you good, it’s what you get.” Mom was right as usual.
Alice
Non-posting lurkers? Wait just a minute. Hey, Alice, who had the UK end of stalking duties this week? Someone should be posting on the VBC about the author event.
I believe Ruthie is planning on attending the London event, but whether or not she posts anything is up to her. I’ll send her an email.
Alice
Ruthie won’t let us down. Besides, since when are the duties of the designated stalker optional? 😉
ok, ok. So its almost 24 hours after the event. But I’m posting it now, just as soon as I can work out where to put it.
Ruthie
Ms. King,
In addition to Chris, who you already know about, Yolanda will be the official designated stalker (sans sock puppets) in Edinburgh. FYI. 😉
Nikki
I’m loving the fact so many of the designated stalkers are members of Letters_Of_Mary, me, Ruthie, Yolanda, Bill, Meredith, Caitlin, and you, Nikki. I think Erin may be also. We are almost cornering the market, so to speak. 😉
Alice
I’d be more than happy to volunteer as Brisbane’s resident stalker…
The job’s all yours, Millie. Have fun with it!
I’m one of the guilty Lurking attendees in Bath – Stripped Blazer & panama (not Felt) Hat. (its summer in England!)
Wonderful event – Thought for a minute we were all going to be frightfully English & just admire you Laurie. So I hope no one minded me jumping in & getting some questions & conversation going.
Good to meet everyone & in such a wonderful independant bookshop.
Laurie – I’m originally from Cornwall – so i’m looking forward to reading how you have written ‘cornwall’ in Touchstone. & thanks for signing the small library i brought with me.
Liane – AKA FeltHat
Great! Now we just need Ms King to plan a trip to Australia;)
You’ve heard of honorary titles, right MIllie? 🙂
Yes, *sniffs sadly* maybe I could make a sock puppet to cheer myself up.
Sock puppets always make me laugh… 🙂
Have you seen the pictures of the VBC puppets? Holmes has wild hair. I meant to trim up his hair before I sent them to Erin, but I forgot. Mary has cute glasses, even if her hair is a tad too short.
