Fifteen Weeks of Bees — Week Five

Welcome to the fifth week of Fifteen Weeks of Bees. On tap this sevenday is:
- The fifth installment of Mary Russell’s tale on MySpace, which explains how on earth she came to send the material to me, Laurie King, and the convoluted manner in which it reached me. Excitement! A punt chase! May Day in Oxford!
- And, a new puzzle! Thanks to our fiendishly clever puzzler Marjorie, we have a beekeeping acrostic for you to twist your brains around. When you’ve conquered it, send in your answers and have your name entered for the week’s Fifteen Weeks contest. The prize? There are four of them–the gorgeous Picador quartet of the first Russell stories, signed by yours truly.
- And best of all, this week we’re giving you an excerpt. The past four weeks, we’ve been posting the manuscript pages of the first chapter of THE LANGUAGE OF BEES one day followed by the publisher’s proof pages the next day. Well, this week we’re giving you the whole first two chapters, complete with a real kicker at the end. Watch for it on Thursday.

A brilliant puzzle again! Although I wonder if we should feel offended by the order “GUESS the words”. Why guess if we can deduce? 😉
Ah, Canzonett, when it comes to word puzzles, I gladly defer to the old gray lady, the New York Times, and they use the word “guess” in their instructions for acrostics as well. Yes, Holmes would not be amused by my use of th word guess instead of deduce, but I think that there is an element of guessing involved for most of us working on word puzzles.
I am very glad that you enjoyed doing it and I thank you for your feedback. It has been very exciting for me to work on the puzzles and…the best is still to come.
