Here in Pennsylvania’s boondocks a library is an invaluable resource. Ours services a huge area and is chronically underfunded. It’s a little gem, offering the folks of the (financially depressed) area computer/internet services, books, periodicals, e-books, a website, DVD’s and CD’s, even jigsaw puzzles; plus it networks to other libraries, and runs programs for all ages all year ’round. Moving here for nature and solitude, I was pleasantly surprised by the library here and have supported it actively and volunteer for its programs. Rural people need a quality library more than urban folks and can afford to support it less.
