The Sphinx, an elegant (and quite legal) brothel run by Mme Lemestre, is said to be the first business in Paris to install air conditioning. There is some disagreement as to when it opened, but clearly it was up and running by 1929.

I love the pre-publishing stories and pictures you’ve posted . I’ m ready for the book!
Since my retirement I’ve enjoyed researching periods in history that have some significance for my family. Although my grandmother never went to Paris she was a lady of the twenties! For my youngest daughters birthday I did costumes books and stories based on the twenties using some of the actual photos I have of her. My grandfather was an antiques buyer for Marshall Fields so he did travel to Paris and other places. After my studies so many of the names I read in your posts are familiar to me. I can hardly wait. It feels like I’ll be reading more family stories!
