An e-birthday card, for Mary Russell

When I happened to mention that January 2 is Mary Russell’s birthday (115 and going strong!) the clever folk at Random House jumped at the chance to add to their growing series of Dreaming Spies e-cards, which use my photos of Japan to illustrate tidbits from the book:Jan 2

Happy Birthday, Miss Russell! May you have many more years to share your memoirs with us (and give my best regards to Mr. Holmes) –

Happy birthday from the Canadian side of the Thousand Islands! You will have passed Gananoque on your way from Montreal to Toronto with Iris Sutherland, but you were hardly apt to notice, being occupied at the time.

Happy Birthday! I look forward to your new adventures. Don’t tell me anything I want to be surprised. SH!

    Happy (belated) Birthday, Miss Russell!

I only found this because – having received two calendars for Christmas and being an aspiring writer – I am filling one calender with the birthdays of fictional characters.

I do, however, have a question. I love this quote (and the whole book of The Moor) but what would the female equivalent be? “Look around for a man with…”? What two characteristics would Miss Russell say aremost in picking a husband?

Ah, now there’s a question. Maybe we’ll find her judgment in a future book…
