Jane Steele: Reader, I murdered him.

We loves us some Lyndsay Faye here on Mutterings. Her Timothy Wilde trilogy has been one of my favorite worlds to explore in recent years, while the author herself has become one of my favorite people.

Lyndsay now has a new world, publishing next April: a deliciously wicked tale that starts as a riff on Jane Eyre and ends up redefining Victorian England as a whole. And since Lyndsay knows how much I love her books, she sent me two copies of the book, so I could share one.  Lyndsay describes Jane Steele as Jane Eyre meets Darkly Dreaming Dexter.

Yes, this looks great! That’s my favorite line from JE and made me fall in love with the book the first time I read it.

I’m always up for a good read (which probably doesn’t need to be said, Laurie R. being my favorite author!)
So isn’t it great, on the eve of a cold Canadian winter, that Laurie herself would suggest my next few book choices! I’m off to the library!! It would be icing on the cake to win, but I’m thankful just to learn about a new author

  6. Dianna on October 29, 2015 at 6:53 am

Oh yes! This cross over I could get behind 🙂

  7. Joy on October 29, 2015 at 6:56 am

I get gooseflesh just anticipating such a marriage! Dexter *and* Jane? Sigh, more sleepless nights to come…

  8. Emily Hilbert on October 29, 2015 at 7:04 am

Anything remotely related to Jane Eyre trips my romantic trigger. Love the idea of this! And especially love a new Laurie-recommended author!

  9. Hélène on October 29, 2015 at 7:11 am

April is too far away, so I send a plea to the God of Drawings! Can’t wait for The murder of Mary Russell, either!

  10. Amber on October 29, 2015 at 7:14 am

I’m always on the look out for new books…Thanks for the recommendation!

I am way more excited for this than any other book releasing in the next year. WTG, Lyndsay!

  12. Merrily Taylor on October 29, 2015 at 7:18 am

I had the privilege of reading this in ARC form – it’s fantastic, and I speak as one who has loved “Jane Eyre” since I was fourteen!

  13. Lori on October 29, 2015 at 7:20 am

Two of my favorites in one blog post?? Can’t wait to read this one! I hope Jane helps me recover from the end of Timothy’s awesome trilogy.

  14. Annette Lessmann on October 29, 2015 at 7:24 am

  19. Debby Pitzer on October 29, 2015 at 7:47 am

Darkly dreaming Dexter?? Laughed so hard I spewed coffee on the screen, but I loved Jane Eyre and would love to read her take!

  20. Valerie L. on October 29, 2015 at 8:09 am

Thank you, Laurie, for two new series to read by Lyndsay Faye. Need to keep busy until The Murder of Mary Russell (by you-know-who) appears!

  23. Kathy N on October 29, 2015 at 8:29 am

I loved the Wilde brothers, the other characters, the tension/excitement of the plots of L. Faye’s trilogy. It would be great to read her newest book early. I don’t want to wait months. Thanks for the chance.

  24. Michelle Ruelas on October 29, 2015 at 8:35 am

It’s always so great to get a recommendation of another great author to read!

  25. Michelle Ruelas on October 29, 2015 at 8:38 am

I always love to get on to another great read!

  26. Kay on October 29, 2015 at 9:02 am

I don’t know Lyndsay Faye, so thanks for the recommendation. A story that “starts” as a riff on Jane Eyre should go somewhere interesting. A story that “redefines Victorian England” is irresistible.

  27. Sarah Pantoja on October 29, 2015 at 9:12 am

    I’d like one!

  28. Barbara Rohrer on October 29, 2015 at 9:18 am

Love recommendations for new reads that take me into my favorite realms, with some of my favorite literary characters and new heroes and heroines, too.

  29. Barb Touchette on October 29, 2015 at 9:24 am

I LOVE finding new authors and exploring their style of storytelling!

  30. Kathy Reel on October 29, 2015 at 9:33 am

I was so lucky to get to read an ARC of this amazing new book from Lyndsay. It will surpass any expectations you have for it. Brilliant! I sadly don’t get to keep the ARC, so I’d love to win one here so that I can go back and put in my post-it tabs while it’s all fresh in my mind. Of course, I doubt it will ever much leave my mind.

  31. Courtney on October 29, 2015 at 9:34 am

This is awesome. I would LOVE to get a copy of this book!!

  32. Eunice Merideth on October 29, 2015 at 9:35 am

  35. Bonnie Miles on October 29, 2015 at 9:53 am

Even a cereal box would have great appeal to read if recommended by the talented Laurie King. Life is too short to read bad writing.

  36. Catherine on October 29, 2015 at 10:00 am

I’ll go check out Dexter – haven’t read this or anything from Faye.

  37. Janis Kiehl Harrison on October 29, 2015 at 10:07 am

Okay, another author to add to my ever-growing list. People in the bldg where I live sometimes ask me why I don’t watch TV. Because the pictures in my unillustrated books are so much better, the sound tracks so superior…

  38. Celia Lewis on October 29, 2015 at 10:07 am

Wonderful – I’m adding yet another new author to my Must-Read lists! How have I missed her-?
    Cheers from Canada.

  39. Lara on October 29, 2015 at 10:09 am

  40. Rachel Adrianna on October 29, 2015 at 10:29 am

  42. Alison Skier on October 29, 2015 at 10:39 am

Just finished the Timothy WIlde trilogy and I’m in a Lindsay Faye induced mind vaccuum. I need Jane Steele to get me through the long, lonely Oklahoma winter. I’m not sure I’ll make it to April otherwise.

  69. Elizabeth on October 30, 2015 at 7:22 am

    Pick me! Pick me!

  70. Kiwi Carlisle on October 30, 2015 at 8:01 am

  71. Barbara Gibson on October 30, 2015 at 10:47 am

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Timothy Wilde trilogy and only wish there were to be more than three. I am looking forward to the new series. Jane Eyre was the first “adult” novel I read, and I have reread it numerous times. It will be interesting to see what Jane will be like in Lindsay’s hands!

      Not too late–you’re entered now!

  82. Windy Sabin on November 2, 2015 at 4:42 pm

The only way to make the combination of Lyndsay Faye and Jane Eyre better would be to include Laurie. Victorian England? New twist on classic literature? Dexter? And my own maiden name (Steele)? You made my day. Can’t wait!!!!

  83. Amy Lilly on November 2, 2015 at 5:45 pm

I loved all Faye’s other novels! I recommend her to all my library patrons who love historical mysteries. Very excited about her latest book. Can’t wait to read it!

  84. Pam O. on July 1, 2016 at 11:36 am

Always on the lookout for a really good writer – a recommendation from one of my favorite writers makes me truly happy! My local library (small) is failing me these days…
