Also for those of us who are white, male, and Christian, but are not stupid, vicious hypocrites who believe the mere existance of people who disagree with us deprives us of some God-given right to be the only people in the room.

Finally, all right-minded conservatives will have something to run against in 2008 instead of having to distinguish themselves from the Bush administration. A Democrat-controlled congress is just what the GOP needs, and it could not have come at a better time than during an otherwise “lame duck” period. I’ll add my thanks to the list.
Perhaps God isn’t a Republican after all! Indiana is now a shade of purple instead of red. In addition to 3 Congressional districts going Dem, the State House of Representatives is now controlled by the Dems. Maybe they can slow down Gov. Mitch Daniels in his drive to privatize the state of Indiana!
In a curious act that no one can understand, Charlie Crist, Republican candidate for governor in Florida, refused to attend a huge rally on Monday in Pensacola with the President. Jeb Bush replaced Crist at his brother’s side on the podium. Crist was elected anyway. In the South, we wait until after our guests have left to insult them.
It seems so many of us are breathing a huge (and hopeful) sigh of relief. It is as if we have been holding our breath, waiting for the other shoe (or bomb) to drop…
It looks as if we will have something else to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
And the best thing for me was finally feeling like my vote counted. I’m a left-wing liberal in conservative southeastern Virginia, so my choices are usually the conservative Republican or the write-in. This time I actually helped a Democrat win a Senate seat and swing the balance of power.
Heady stuff. I wish it were at least possible more often, and for more kinds of races.

Mousie, here in Israel we have a plethora of parties, and the result is catastrophic. In the end, in this “democratic” country, the government is inevitably one for which NO ONE voted–since no one “votes” for a coalition. And more often than not, coalition politics is simple paralysis.
America’s lucky to have a two party system–it’s just that the parties have to have substantially different platforms!
Yes, in a recent election south of us, the country had three candidates on different platforms, and the ‘old’ Contra leader won by virtue of the fact that his opponents split the majority vote–he would not have won, say many analysts, if it were only a two party competition. From my view, the problem is not the two-party system, but the loss of integrity and old-fashioned manners and fairness in our current system. Since when is it good behavior in a democracy to lie, slander and employ massive character assasination as a means of winning? In this nation of former Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, have we completely forgotten the wisdom of truth-telling? Whether one is conservative, liberal or a frogitarian, could we not agree that Rove (master engineer of negative campaigning)and his ilk need to be tossed out?
Yes, I miss plain old civility. The painting of the opposition as the devil incarnate is so simplistic it makes me want to puke. Either way. If we could just get back to polite debate of the issues, tell the truth, trust each other and come up with a plan… Well, I grow faint at the possibilities. I don’t hold out much hope for this honeymoon period to last very long. Can we find candidates in either party who actually tell the truth? Hope springs eternal. But we live on the earth not in heaven. However, cross your fingers, pray, exercise and eat your vegetables. We may live long enough to see it.
It is too bad that one of the torpedoes that helped sink the republican ship was the homosexual antics of a “homophobe”. Postive spin on homosexuality would have been nicer. Oh well only New Life Evangelists are perfect. LOL
