So there I was, feeling as though the comment in the Times (Case in Correspondence) rang a bell. Off I went to Google and voila! Holmes must really love having the web for information at one’s swift command. And what would Russell do? and what will the postcard look like!?? 🙂 Meredith

Speaking of Oxford (we were, weren’t we??) what college did Mary Russell attend (can’t get to the books right now …)?
La Donna, if I remember correctly, we are never told which of the possible colleges is Russell’s – I know someone will correct me if I’m wrong! Of course some are eliminated because they didn’t yet exist when Russell matriculated.
Well, hmmm, it would have to be Somerville, St. Hugh’s, or St. Hilda’s wouldn’t it? And she couldn’t have gotten a degree until 1920 or so because Oxford didn’t grant women degrees until somewhere in there. I’ll have to investigate.
